The castle at Angers is a great example of a "fortress-castle" with its solid walls and ramparts. Its unique black and white exterior make it a favorite site on the Loire as does the massive tapestry of Revelation housed there. Meanwhile the city of Angers itself is fairly large with a big cathedral and several other notable buildings. (2007) |
| The imposing black and white towers of the chateau d'Angers are evidence of its military history. In the "moat" of the castle was once a menagerie of animals as well as these splendid flower gardens. The interior of the castle is suprisingly elegant with ornate homes and chapels and sculptured gardens. A contrast to the stark exterior. The ramparts of the castle give a great overview of the city and the cathedral behind. |
