There are a number of famous historic districts and neighborhoods just out of downtown Atlanta each with their own unique characeristics and sights. Significant to my work, the suburbs of Atlanta also host one of the fasting growing international communities in the US and the most diverse population in the southeast. (2003,05,06) |
| Martin Luther King was born and raised in Atlanta in the historic African American neighborhood of Sweet Auburn. His old home is seen here. Just down the street is the site of his tomb and museum center. An interestingly different corner of Atlanta is bohemian Litte Five Points where you can find an array of punkster bars, peircing parlors, and vintage clothing shops as well as odd restaurants such as the Vortex. Decatur is small but has a wealth of cafes, restaurants, and the impressive old Dekalb courthouse at its heart. Marietta is another small town part of metro-Atlanta with a historic square and old railroad depot now full of antique shops and eateries. Atlanta is also a college town with GSU and Atlanta Tech downtown and other private univerisities such as the highly regarded Emory University whose campus is seen here. |
