Charleston is surprisingly nice with its historic areas, waterfront, and beaches. The historic downtown is its hallmark with churches, homes, and such touching both the Revolutionary and Civil War eras. It also has a lot of recreation to offer including ocean beaches, rivers, and even swamps. (2002)

Some of the historic homes (and palm trees) lining "The Battery" riverfront. The Huguenot Church, one of the many old churches scattered around the French district of the city. Inside historic Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Just outside the city is Cypress Gardens, a lare nature area with a swamp you can paddle around in.
