Les Eyzies

Map on/off

Les Eyzies is a small village in the heart of a region full of cliffs and rock shelters once used by prehistoric nomads hunters. It has a number of famous archaeological sites and museums. Around the town is the dark forest area that gives the region its name of Perigord noir. (2007)

A view of the cliff that stands over the village of Les Eyzies and the national prehistoric museum built into it. A close up the cliff and the famous Cro-Magnon man statue. Some of the holes in the cliff are from the dwellings built by residents in the middle ages. This small hole is "cro Magnon" (old French for "Magnon's hole") where the first skeletal remains of the prehistoric lineage were found.
