The northern section of Georgia is filled with very nice mountains with trails, waterfalls, overlooks, and a number of other natural attractions. You can spend quite a lot of time going to the various state parks to hike and enjoy time among the many trees and rivers. The area is also known for its past of goldpanning and rural life. | Over in Clevland, GA is the amusing Cabbage Patch Kids hospital---a museum and store complete with planted cabbages and new million dollar facility. A view over the Georgia mountains from Amicalola. One of many waterfalls all around the north Georgia area, this is the upper Desota Falls---a very easy hike to a very nice falls. Amicalola Falls are some of the largest in Georgia with a great view from above and below. Nestled in among the Georgia mountains is the tourist city of Helen, modelled after a German or Swiss mountain town with lots of specialty shops and bakeries with European items. More of the Georgia mountains including Yonah mountain whose rock face is used for rappelling practice by the state army. Dahlonega is an old mining town with an historic downtown that offers chance to go goldpanning. Also in the mountains is the Georgia wine highway. Here is the Three Sisters Vineyard, named for the three mountains in view. The rocks of Raven's Cliff Falls are an impressive contrast to the sloping forest around and normally contain a beautiful falls--except in times of drought as seen here. Tallulah Gorge was carved by the Tallulah River and Falls, now stilled by a dam except a few days a year when it is opened as seen here. Fall is a popular time to travel to North Georgia to see the changing colors all around. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald. At the top is a tower where you can look over the Georgia mountain towns and out toward the Smokies. Anna Ruby Falls is a nice double waterfall near Helen. |
