Niagara-on-the-Lake

Map on/off

Just up from Niagara Falls along the parkway heading towards Lake Ontario is the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. This small but historic area is full of antinque shops and colonial buildings. Nearby is also the historic War of 1812 battle site of Fort George. (2012)

The quieter town center of Niagara-on-the-Lake is quite a contrast to the kitch of neighboring Niagara Falls One notable stop in town is the old Niagara Apothecary museum The upper Niagara peninsula is one of the few very fertile fruit areas of Canada and there are tons of vineyards on display as you head along the parkway into Niagara-on-the-Lake are Fort George was the defending British position in the War of 1812 that, though eventually destroyed, was key to Canada not being taken over by the US. Here you see a uniformed musket rifle demonstration.
