General info and volunteering

Visit the site for World Relief at www.worldrelief.org to learn more about our organization as a whole and what is happening with refugees throughout the United States.  You can find out about refugees in your area if we have an office nearby or you can even donate online.

The World Relief Atlanta site at atlanta.wr.org offers some stories specific to our area and a list of information and resources for refugees and volunteers helping them.  I help to maintain this site as well (though there's  never much time to keep it updated!)

For more information about the process of refugees coming to the United States, check out this description on the Lexington Institute site (www.lexingtoninstitute.org/immigration/refugees.htm) or check out information from the Cultural Orientation Project (www.culturalorientation.net).

Colleague Associations: Some of the agencies and organizations in Atlanta with whom we partner.

Sagal Radio -  Here is the website for Sagal Radio, a local Somali radio broadcast begun by Hussien Mohamed.  I work with Hussien at World Relief, and have seen that his radio program serves as an important point of news, discussion, and advocacy for the many Somali-speaking people in Atlanta.  The site contains both English and Somali articles.

The Georgia Advisory Council on Refugee Resettlement - Representing a number of refugee-serving organizations in the state, The Georgia Advisory Council on Refugee Resettlement site provides information about refugees, activities going on in Georgia, and suggestions of way for the public to get involved in refugee-related issues.
